S8700-4 overview
The Huawei CloudEngine S8700 series is a high-performance chassis switch designed for cloud campus networks. Available in 4-slot, 6-slot, and 10-slot models, it offers full-rate GE/10GE/25GE/40GE/100GE access ports to support the efficient deployment of simplified two-layer architectures in medium to large-scale campus networks. Equipped with Huawei’s self-developed software platform, the S8700 ensures a secure system and reliable data access. Key components such as the main control unit, power supply, and fans adopt a redundant design, delivering carrier-grade reliability. Ideal for building next-generation cloud campus networks, the S8700 is widely used in industries such as transportation, manufacturing, and education, serving as an aggregation or access switch for large campuses and a core switch for small to medium-sized campuses — empowering global customers in their digital transformation journey.

LPU slot | Slots 1 to 2 | Horizontal | Different types of LPUs can be installed in the same chassis. |
SRU slot | Slots 3 and 4 | Horizontal | Two SRUs work in active/standby mode for 1:1 hot standby. By default, the SRU with a smaller slot ID is the active SRU, and the SRU with a larger slot ID is the standby SRU. The SRU can provide service ports. |
PWR slot | Slots 1 to 6 | Horizontal | PWRs are plug-and-play. |
FAN slot | Slots 1 | Horizontal | The system can operate properly for a short time after a single fan fails. You are advised to replace the faulty fan module immediately. |
