Answer

Huawei EchoLife ONT include HG8010, HG8010H, HG8045, HG8045A, HG8240, HG8240H, HG8240T, HG8546M, HG8245, HG8245C, HG8245Q, HG8245T, HG8247H5, HG8247H, and router etc.
HG8010, HG8010H, HG8240, HG8240H, HG8240T, HG8240W are bridging ONTs and do not have the Wi-Fi function. You need to perform on the connected router, consult the router vendor or the carrier service hotline.
For Huawei ONTs with Wi-Fi functions, such as HG8245C, HG8045A, HG8245, HG8245H, HG8245Q, HG8245T, HG8247H5 and HG8247H, perform the following steps:

  1. Power off and restart the ONT. Then try to connect to Wi-Fi again.
  2. Visit your service provider’s official website using a network cable for a speed test. If the network speed is still low, there is a problem with the network and you are advised to contact the service provider.
  3. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength on your terminal. If the signal strength is weak, you may be far away from the signal source or an obstacle exists, and you are advised to get closer to the ONT.
  4. If multiple terminals are connected to the Wi-Fi network, bandwidths are shared and the speed is low. Check whether you are running bandwidth-hungry services such as download and game services. If yes, disable these services and then access the Internet.
  5. Get far away from Wi-Fi signal interference sources such as microwave ovens and cordless phones.
  6. Change the Wi-Fi password (with reference to section What do I do if I forget the Wi-Fi password of Huawei ONT(HG8240, HG8240T, HG8240W, HG8245, HG8247, HG8247H)) to prevent the network speed from being slowed down by rogue devices.

Huawei EchoLife ONT include HG8010, HG8010H, HG8045, HG8045A, HG8240, HG8240H, HG8240T, HG8240W, HG8245, HG8245H, HG8245Q, HG8245T, HG8247, HG8247H, and router etc.

  1. Wi-Fi speed relies on the bandwidth provided by the ISP, so the simplest way is to upgrade to faster broadband.
  2. Wi-Fi speed is affected by the Wi-Fi signal strength and quality. Ensure that the Huawei ONT is far away from interference sources such as TVs, microwave ovens, refrigerators, cordless phones, and Bluetooth devices, and reduce the number of obstacles between the Huawei ONT and WiFi devices (such as pads, mobile phones, and laptops). You are advised to use repeaters to enhance the WiFi coverage if the area is large.
  3. Using the correct radio channel. Generally, the Huawei ONT selects channels adaptively. If the network is slow or the quality turns poor from time to time, you can use a WiFi scanner such as WiFi Stumbler or WiFi Analyzer to search for the optimal channel.
  4. To prevent unauthorized network access, log in to the web interface of the router and select MAC address filtering based on your requirements.

For Huawei ONTs with Wi-Fi functions, such as HG8045, HG8045A, HG8245, HG8245H, HG8245Q, HG8245T, HG8247 and HG8247H, perform the following steps:

  1. Exercise caution when using software to access Wi-Fi without permission. Such software uploads a user’s Wi-Fi network information without notification. Another user can find this Wi-Fi network name, obtain the Wi-Fi network key from the software server through a 3G or 4G network, and access this Wi-Fi network without permission.
  2. Check whether encryption has been performed for the Wi-Fi network. Specifically, log in to the ONT web page. On the main menu, choose WLAN4G/5G Basic Network Settings. In WPA PreSharedKey , do not select Hide. .
  3. Check whether the Wi-Fi password is too simple to be cracked. You are advised to set Authentication Modeto WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. Configure and record a password with high security level, for example, a password containing digits, uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and special characters. This prevents password cracking.

The following figure shows the details.

  1. For some ONTs, you can configure a Wi-Fi password after choosing Advanced Configuration > WLAN > 2.4G/5G Basic Network Settings. on the ONT web page.
  2. 2. By configuring MAC address filtering, you can allow only permitted devices (whitelist) to access the network, and prevent rogue devices (blacklist) from accessing the network. For details about how to configure MAC address filtering.
