NE40E introduction:

The HUAWEI NetEngine40EUniversal Service Router (NE40E) is a Huawei high-end network product. It is deployed at the edge of IP backbone networks, IP metropolitan area networks (MANs), and other large-scale IP networks. The NE40E works with core routers to provide a complete and hierarchical IP network solution.
The NE40E runs on the Versatile Routing Platform (VRP) operating system developed by Huawei and uses the hardware-based forwarding and non-blocking data switching technology. The NE40E has the following features:

  • Carrier-class reliability, line-rate forwarding capability, excellent expansibility, well-designed quality of service (QoS) mechanism, and strong service-processing capability
  • Powerful service access and aggregation capabilities, flexible configurations with various features, such as Layer 2 virtual private network (L2VPN), Layer 3 virtual private network (L3VPN), multicast, multicast VPN (MVPN), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Traffic Engineering (TE), and QoS, to ensure carrier-class service transmission reliability
  • Support for IPv6 and smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6

The NE40E can be flexibly deployed at the edge or core of IP/MPLS networks to simplify the network structure and provide an extensive range of services and reliable service quality. The NE40E is driving IP/MPLS bearer networks to develop greater broadband capacities and to become more secure, intelligent, and service-oriented.
The NE40E series routers include the NE40E-X16, NE40E-X16A, NE40E-X8, and NE40E-X8A, NE40E-X3, NE40E-X3A, satisfying the requirements for networks of various scales.

PPPOE function and NAT session on NE40E:
 
PPPOE function:
1.If the PPPOE function is to be realized on the router of the NE40E, which shall be guaranteed to PPPOE license for NE40E firstly.

  1. Meanwhile, it also need to equip subscriber licenses according to your demands.

NAT session:
If you want to realize NAT session function, NE40E need to equip VSUF series units with 2M/16M NAT licenses.

ME60 introduction:
 
HUAWEI ME60 Multiservice Control Gateway (hereinafter referred to as the ME60), as an MSCG developed to meet the requirement for transformation, ensures security, reliability, and QoS for various telecommunication services. Based on the ME60 and its solutions, carriers can construct an intelligent carrier-class IP bearer network, transforming the IP network and shifting the traditional telecommunication services to the new network.
The ME60 integrates user management, security control, and service control, which eliminates the defects of traditional routers and firewalls that cannot satisfy carrier-class requirements and provides user-level management and control. This greatly reduces operation expenditure and provides a platform for the operation of telecommunication services.
The ME60 implements user authentication, call control, policy control, QoS guarantee, and security guarantee over various services by associating the service layer with the bearer layer.
The ME60 provides five models: ME60-8, ME60-16, ME60-X3, and ME60-X8, and ME60-X16.

ME60 is BRAS chassis, if you need PPPOE function, which does not need extra PPPOE license, it is an advantage over the router of NE40E, because NE40E PPPOE license is very complicated, need extra PPPOE licenses. So if you need PPPOE function in application, i think ME60 is your first choice.
